In September 2018, CCS reported on the case of a missing Uyghur Professor of Anthropology Rahile Dawut who had created and directed the Xinjiang University's Minorities Folklore Research Center. European Union Awards Sakharov Prize to Uyghur Economist Ilham Tohti

On October 24, 2019 the European Union awarded its highest human rights award to Ilham Tohti - The 2019 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. Parents in Re-Education Camps – Children in Orphanages
