Russian Scientist Elena Musikhina’s Deportation Order Rescinded, She Has Been Granted a Two-Year Temporary Residency in Canada. Musikhina Thanks CCS for Support. CCS Thanks Prime Minister Trudeau and the Government of Canada for Well Reasoned and Speedy Response

November 19, 2018

Update to Previous Entry – Russian Scientist, Professor and Environmentalist Elena Musikhina departed Russia for Canada after being notified that authorities were planning on issuing criminal charges against her to stop her research of the pollution of Lake Baikal. Musikhina and her husband went to stay with their daughter who had taken up permanent residency in Canada. While there, Elena and her husband applied for political asylum, which was not granted for failure to prove that there was a compelling and life threatening reason for it to be granted. They appealed and still were denied asylum, a deportation order was issued from the Canadian Courts requiring them to return to Russia on December 3rd and providing them with return tickets. Due to the environmental studies that she had conducted as well as accidents that had taken the lives of others involved in the studies, Musikhina was alarmed at the instructions to return to Russia, knowing full well that it would mean immediate arrest of her and her husband. CCS appealed to the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. Following CCS appeal Musikhina was notified that her deportation order was rescinded and that she and her husband were granted a two year temporary residency in Canada. Musikhina wrote to CCS thanking us for our support in her case and sharing her delight with the results. CCS sincerely thanks Prime Minister Trudeau and the government of Canada for doing the right thing.
