Date: February 17, 2017 at 3:21:00 AM ESTDear Members of the Committee of Concerned Scientists,
Thank you very much for your letter in which you draw my attention on the case of Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali, an Iranian physician working in Italy and currently detained at Evin prison in Tehran.
On behalf of HR/VP Federica Mogherini, I wish to assure you that as soon as we were informed of his detention we contacted the Iranian Embassy in Brussels and the local EU representation in Tehran which conducted a formal démarche expressing our concern with his health condition and requesting a commuting of the sentence and a fair trial. Human Rights in Iran remain an issue of concern and for this reason it was agreed to engage in a process of dialogue between EU and Iran on human rights’ related issues as part of our wider bilateral relationship.
Yours sincerely,
Hugo Sobral
