Georgetown postdoc detained by ICE on no charges

Georgetown postdoctoral researcher Badar Khan Suri, currently on a J-1 visa and married to a U.S. citizen, was arrested on March 17th at his home and was transferred to an ICE detention center in Louisiana. Update: Professor believed to be missing has returned to Japan

Hu Shiyun, a professor of Chinese literature and linguistics at Kobe Gakuin University in Japan, went missing in 2023 while visiting China. According to the university, Shiyun has been back in Japan since January, but there has been no explanation for his disappearance. Columbia University graduate and Permanent Legal Resident detained by ICE without being charged with an offense

Recent Columbia University graduate and Permanent Legal Resident of the USA, Mahmoud Khalil, was arrested on March 8th in New York City and transferred to an ICE detention center in Louisiana. Baku State University Teacher in Azerbaijan Still Not Allowed to Return to Work

Mr. Araz Aliyev was once a professor at Baku State University (BSU) in Azerbaijan. On December 23, 2023, he was abducted by people in civilian clothes, subjected to torture for 24 hours, and denied access to his lawyer and family. UPDATE: Salma al-Shehab released from Saudi Arabian jail

Leeds University PhD student Salma al-Shehab was imprisoned in 2021 and sentenced to serve 34 years in prison after retweeting some posts that were disliked by the government. Elizabeth Tsurkov, a doctoral student, has been missing in Iraq since 2023 after being abducted in Baghdad while conducting research for Princeton University.
