We are concerned about the safety of political prisoners in Iran’s Evin Prison, including Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi, amid reports of bombing nearby and prisoners locked in their cells and abandoned by the guards. We urge immediate action to protect them.

Dear President Trump,
The Committee of Concerned Scientists (CCS) is an independent human rights organization of scientists, physicians, engineers, and scholars. For over 50 years, it has been protecting and advancing the rights and scientific freedom of colleagues worldwide.
We are writing to express our concern about the well-being of the detainees in Iran’s Evin prison, which contains numerous political prisoners, including the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi.
Recent news reports indicate that the Evin area of Tehran has been heavily bombed, prompting prison guards to lock the prisoners and abandon the prison. A prominent political prisoner, whose words were communicated to us by his wife, reported loud explosions shaking prison cells.
We respectfully request that you do everything in your power to protect political prisoners detained in Evin prison. Their safety must be in the best interests of the United States, as they can be the future of reformed Iran.
Sincerely,

Joel L. Lebowitz, Walter Reich, Eugene M. Chudnovsky, Alexander Greer
