We congratulate you upon your receipt of the Nobel Prize in physics. Your contributions to theoretical physics have been outstanding and exceptionally wide-ranging; but we also admire you for your concern about oppressed colleagues around the world.

The Committee of Concerned Scientists is especially proud that you have been an honorary member of our board. For 50 years, we have worked to combat assaults – physical, legal, and professional – on scientists and scholars. The presence of exceptionally eminent scientists on our board, including yours, has added great power to our efforts. We thank you.
