Narges Mohammadi, a 46-year old Iranian physicist, engineer and human rights advocate confined in Evin Prison, sentenced to 16 years for peaceful advocacy of women’s rights and abolition of the death penalty, is in need of hospitalization. In May of 2019 she had a hysterectomy and was rushed back to the prison in less than one week. As a result, she has a post-operative infection for which she is not receiving care nor medication. CCS has written the Attorney General of Iran requesting immediate medical care for her.

Dear Mr. Montazeri: The Committee of Concerned Scientists is an independent organization of scientists, physicians, engineers and scholars devoted to the protection and advancement of human rights and scientific freedom for colleagues all over the world.
We write to express our concern for Narges Mohammadi, a 46-year old Iranian physicist, engineer and human rights advocate. In May 2016 she was sentenced to a 16-year prison term on charges that are based exclusively on her peaceful advocacy for women’s rights and abolition of the death penalty. In May 2019 she underwent an operation for a hysterectomy and was rushed back to the prison in less than a week following the surgery, against the advice of her physicians. It was reported that she was not receiving post-operation antibiotics and developed an infection. Her health is failing and her life is in danger.
We urge you to immediately order the transfer of Narges Mohammadi to a medical facility.
Sincerely,
Joel L. Lebowitz, Paul H. Plotz, Walter Reich, Eugene M. Chudnovsky, Alexander Greer
