It is with great sadness that the Committee of Concerned Scientists announces the passing of one of its active Advisory Committe members. Dr. Pierre Hohenberg died on December 15, 2017. Dr. Hohenberg was a French-American physicist who worked primarily on statistical mechanics. He received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from Harvard University.
Dr. Hohenberg chaired a committee of the APS for the freedom of scientists in 1983; and in 1992-93 served on an APS committee in support of scientists in the former Soviet Union. Additionally, he was on our Advisory Board for many years.
Dr. Hohenberg had many accomplishments and discoveries in Physics, received numerous awards and also was an accomplished long distance swimmer.
