The Office of Attorney General of Russian Federation has received the letter from members of your organization regarding persecution of Yu. S. Pivovarov, the former director of the State Institute of Scientific Information of Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The investigation committee is in a possession of documents related to negligence of Pivovarov in performing his duties that resulted in a fire at the institute and caused significant damages.
Pivovarov was accused of criminal neglect and of improper use of his official position. The Attorney General Office has taken measures that removed any violations and the law has been satisfied.
In the course of the investigation another crime has been uncovered that involved Pivovarov and former members of the Institute. A criminal case has been initiated regarding embezzling of the Institute funds.
The outcome of this criminal case will be based upon the evidence collected by the investigation regarding the actions of people involved. It is under supervision of the Attorney General Office. At this time there is no reason for any interference by the Office. You have the right to appeal this decision to the Attorney General or to the judge.
