Dr. Sebnem Korur Fincanci, President of the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey and professor at Istanbul University, has been released from prison, along with her two colleagues. However, the charges against them have not been dropped. These charges could result in 14 years in prison. CCS has requested that the Turkish authorities drop all charges against Dr. Fincanci and her colleagues.
President Obama will be meeting with President Erdogan at the NATO Summit this coming week. CCS will request that Obama address this issue as well as the issue of the academics who have been arrested or dismissed from their positions at Turkish universities. CCS will also bring these issues to the attention of the EU and request their assistance as well.
