Last year, Nokia Siemens Networds (NSN) delivered a monitoring center to Irantelecom, Iran’s state owned telephone company. The servers can tap phones, read e-mails and provide surveillance of electronic data communication networks. In 2009, Nokia Siemens Networks and Perusa Partners Fund IL.P. closed the sale of NSN to Perusa. The companies involved also provide support to the system in all of its aspects.
CCS wrote to the CEOs of a number of European telecommunication companies to point out that the Iranian government monitors the communications of its own people and arrests, tortures and kills citizens exercising their human rights. We urged Nokia, Perusa and Nokia Siemens to investigate the use of the NSN monitoring system by the Iranian government to monitor the communications of its own people and to terminate any portion of their contracts that enable the government to violate the rights of its own people.
