Serkan Golge, a NASA scientist has been confined in jail in Turkey since July 2016, when he was arrested on a family vacation and accused of being involved with the failed coup attempt that took place in Turkey on July 15, 2016. Golge denied the charges but was sentenced to 7.5 years. Golge has an appeal hearing on September 19, 2018 and CCS is requesting that people in the scientific community please write either the U.S. government (Michael R. Pompeo, United States Secretary of State, 2201 C Street, NW, Washington, DC 20520) requesting that they intercede on behalf of Dr. Golge; or the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, requesting that Dr. Golge’s charges be dismissed and that he be set free to proceed with his life and contribute in a meaningful way to the work that he was involved in prior to his arrest – the advancement of the space program and our expanding knowledge of outer space.
Attached is CCS’ letter to Michael Pompeo and an article where both Dr. Golge and his wife were interviewed.
